Trans-parere, an interesting response. I do not recall stating that there should be an official religious leader. That would be a direct contravention of my personal beliefs re church and state and certainly would be the antithesis of what the founding fathers stood and died for. This is a nation that strongly adheres to the principle of freedom of religion.

All people should believe and practice as they desire. When we deviate from God's will however we must suffer the consequences of such action. We are free to serve him according to the dictates of our own conscience or not to serve him. When the majority turn from God then a price will be paid. I love this quote from Jefferson in 1781.... "The God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are a gift from God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, and that His justice cannot sleep forever." Another wonderful quote from George Washington in his farewell address ..." It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and Bible."
