in response to reader comment: Free Market Mantra?

Reagan was following the constitution, something you are not familiar with.

Reagan further increased debt to fight the Cold War, more would have been spent over the long term. His objective was to outspend the russians as he KNEW they could not compete and would destroy the USSR. Gues what he was successful. Further if you read your constitution you will notice that it goes give the federal govt the right to fight wars. The posperity that followed during and post the Reagan years was because he reduced tax rates and gave business incentives to do more research to make the US a leader in technology. Guess what, it worked.

Where in the constitution does it give the feds the right to spend on welfare for special groups. It does speak of general welfare i.e. meaning that which benefits all. If you read the works of Jefferson and others you will understand your constitution a little better.

It is not deregulation that destroys the banking sector. Just like today it is stupidity of people that led to the housing crises. Now if we truly believed in the free market we would let these idiots pay the price for their stupidity i.e. banks go under and people lose their homes. No, rather than learn something from our mistakes we are adopting a welfare state mentality, where people look to be helped out by the feds and that destroys your wealth and mine. In addition it creates huge debt for your children and mine to fix or become. slaves. It is simply people are are ignorant who claim it is the free market at fault and we need govt intervention when in reality we did not allow the free market to complete the cycle. We then introduce policies that make things a damn site worse.

It is your socialist views that exacerbate the problems. If we would just let things be and let the consequences follow where they may. I would rather have a few suffer from economic cycles than millions become servants to an out of control fed govt who have the ability to screw up everything. I also happen to believe in the great hearts of the american people who will help and donate to those in need on a temporary basis.

Where does your socialist views get us .....social security. I have to contribute over $5000 a year and what do I get for it ...nothing. If you think social security and medicaid are great then you need your head read as it will destroy this country with debt. Once you add health care into the equation then we are simply bringing us quicker to a total disaster.

Please take your pollution and implied global warming hoax elsewhere. Man does not cause global warming and as we see more and more scientists who are calling it a total hoax.

FDR is the very person who exacerbated the depth of the crash and extended it with his stupid policies. Do your homweork before making such a ridiculous statement.
