Mitch,

Reagan's deregulation led directly to the financial crisis in the banking industry and the morasse in airline service that we are experiencing today. The "prosperity" under Reagan wa the direct result of Republican spending mandated by his budgets that raised the national debt from $950 million to $3.5 trillion dollars in just eight years. But we did learn that "trees cause pollution" under Reagan as he cast aside environmental laws with gusto. We are still paying the price today for his policies.

As for the "socialist" New Deal, say what you wil, it saved millions of destitiute Americans from starvation, unemployment and homelessness after the capitalist systen collapsed in 1929. Ths includes members of both sides of my family, working class people all. I am not willing to sacrifice human lives on the altar of free markets. I am glad FDR felt the same way.
