Sharia law in UK

Reader comment on item: Britain's Encounter with Islamic Law

Submitted by Janusz Kowalik (United States), Feb 12, 2008 at 17:29

What is really missing in the Western world is our pride in the values and ideals that have developed in the Western civilization. over the last 2000 years. Many super liberal Westerners think that every culture is equally good for Europe or humanity in greneral. So a bit of stoning converts or unfaithful wifes or wife beating is not a problem for respecting islamic based laws.

The Archbishop of Canterbury has opened discussion on this issue by a very unwise statement about inevitability of sharia.Appeasement did not work in 1938 in Munich and will not work now.Unless the West pulls together and defends its superior culture the modern barbarians will succeed in undermining and weakening Western values, governments and culture.

It is often useful to be diplomatic and politically correct but replacing the term jihadist terrorism by for example the term alternative method of dispute is lying to ourselvrs and creating a pretend word far from the painful reality. The problem probably begins in schools where we do not teach our children how to respect our hard won liberty, democracy and values in general.

Multiculturalism does not mean that all cultures are equally acceptable for Europeans. We must value our culture and be ready to defend them.We fought Fascism successfully because we wanted to defend our culture . We did not want to adapt some Hitler's laws and political practices. Many Britond and other nationals died to defend the Western democracy ideals. It is time to do it again and defend the Western values. We do not need to convetrt others to our beliefs but we should never allow anybody to convert our great democratic ways of life to \ primitive barbaric tyrannies ways of life unworthy of civilized societies. To be polite and diplomatic does not require to be foolish and weak.
