RESPONSE TO MARIA OF NORWAY

Reader comment on item: Britain's Encounter with Islamic Law
in response to reader comment: We need rescuing from the liberal elite

Dear Maria;

It is indeed a conundrum of great depth that faces European nations at this time. The cherished humanitarianism and tolerance of Western Europe, which has historically led to the creation of the most democratic and humane societies on Earth, serves also as Europe's Achilles Heal, for Muslims perceive these essentially positive cultural traits merely as weaknesses to be exploited.

Europe's tolerance and openness allows Islam an umbrella of protection within which it can marshall its forces of Jihad until such time as a violent or political (through free elections) overthrow of the secular and democratic governments of Europe may take place. Remember that to a devout Muslim the world consists of two divided spheres; Dar al-Islam (the lands ruled by Islam) and Dar al-Harb (the lands of warfare). To a Muslim there is no middle ground. Lands not yet ruled by Islam are to be cursed by eternal warfare until such time as they submit to their Muslim masters.

Europe's relative lack of religious fixation has been largely responsible for the generosity and benign attitude expressed by most Western European societies, with their extensive social welfare programs such as universal health care and long-term insurance benefits for the unemployed. However, it has also created some degree of cultural vulnerability, for these very programs have been exploited by pernicious Muslim invaders bent upon destroying the very host countries they have migrated to.

Here in America our population is overwhelmingly Chrisitan. As an Atheist I am personally no more enamored of Christianity than I am of any other religion but I do recognize that the almost universal acceptance of Christianity in the United States acts as a bulwark against the spread of Islam to our shores.

Americans tend to have a deep and abiding faith in the idea that they are not only righteous in their endeavors but that their Christian deity supports them in conflicts both political and religious. And when American anger is unleashed it has proven devastating to our enemies. The Nazi regime of Adolf Hitler and the armies of Imperial Japan found that out the hard way during World War II and, more recently, the regime of Saddam Hussein was smashed within one month with limitied but much appreciated assistance from the British Army and a few other friendly nations. (There can be no doubt that the United States military could have destroyed Saddam's armies without any outside help at all, if need be.)

What Europe and even many Americans fail to see is that what is developing now is essentially a 'holy war' between religions, with Islam becoming an increasingly belligerent , bellicose and tenacious adversary bent upon spreading its rule to other lands. Europe is already ridiculed by some, such as journalist Brigitte Gabriel, as having become "Eurabia", but we here in the United States are far less likely to succumb to such an invasion of religious zealots because most Americans vehemently hold to the belief that this is a "Christian nation" and they would rather kill or die than submit to Islamic rule.

British pundit Tony Blankly once described the American character as that of "a casual, good-natured brutality." We are slow to anger and quick to forgive, but what may happen in between is a force to be reckoned with. Faced with calls of Jihad by Islamo-fascists the unspoken American response will be something like, "Bring it on!" followed by "Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition."
