Reader comment on item: Britain's Encounter with Islamic Law

Submitted by rick (United States), Feb 12, 2008 at 18:10

We now witness a clear historical regression from the last few hundred years of the Western and especially English history towards the attainment of equality before the law to ta request for the acceptance of a medieval koranic based legal system with built in injustices and inequalities. And who is making thsi suggestion? Why no one else other than a "Defender of the Faiith", the Archbishop of Canterbury. Henry VIII, scoundrel that he was, would turn in his grave.

The West is not perfect, far from it. But in the area of Law it towers over both anti-democratic secular fascist systems and fundamentalist religious fascist codes, both of which dis-enfanchise segments of society and have lists of "enemies" that must be exterminated.

The most absurd statement the ole' foggy archbishop said was that the Western system of law- i.e., the same standing before the law for everyman who comes before it, is "a danger ". A danger!

What is the next "danger", the Vote?

Equality before the law is what English law has been based on for hundreds of years. It is the essence of Western freedom and democracy. And this archbishop finds it a "danger".

And he prefers to substitute sharia law for muslims in its place.

This is the tryanny of pc. It stands valued and time honored institutions on their head all for and in the name of multi-culturalism. It is an evil that goes beyond party labels.

The idea of pc has a born again Christian, George Bush advocatng a state for palestinians when all they have done for 60 years is steal international funding and engage in terrorism - which is getting worse each year. Bush also advocates an independent Kosovo thus throwing Serbians to the dogs and threatening a real stand off with Russia. This is pc multi-culturalism at work. Believe me, it is a disease which infects the John McCains as well as the Hillary Clintons.

Hopefully, this archbishop fool- who has won the support of Prime Minister Gordon Brown- will be sacked by his fellow churchmen and a lesson will be learned.

Of course the absurdity could continue with the archbishop proposing that Muslim martyrs - like one of Osama's 19 or perhaps a palestinian suicide martyr bomber , will take his place next to a statute of a Christian martyr like Saint Stephen or Saint Andrew.....for balance of course.

For an Anglican who advocated Divestment from Israel, such is not a far off idea.
