Mitch, You should realize that most of the quotes you cite are fabrications of the Religious Right that have been exposed as such long ago. If the Founders thought as you claim, why is there not a single reference to god or Jesus in the text of the Constitution? Why does Article 6 specify no religious test for any public office in the USA if the Founders wanted to restrict public office to Christians? It is known that the first five presidents did not beieve in Christian dogma, but were deists or agnostics.

Read what men like Franklin, Madison, Jefferson, Paine and Adams actually had to say about Christianity. They were very critical. And Washington never once mentioned Jesus or Christianity by name in any of his speeches or letters, Never once, despite the phony quote you cite. He also refused to kneel in church or take communion, and refused to havee a clergyman called to his deathbed. And why were the greatest critics of the Constitution through the Civil War members of the Christian clergy who denounced the Founding Fathers as heathens?
