Braver Still are the Lives Given for the Freedom to Express These Words

Reader comment on item: Barack Obama's Muslim Childhood
in response to reader comment: You're a brave man, M. Tovey

Submitted by M. Tovey (United States), Jun 16, 2008 at 14:35

It took a couple of weeks to get back to this exchange, and while the expression of confirmation of the thoughts are compelling, the circumstances which elicited the short civics presentation are of a more compelling nature, that of being vigilant and being ready to focus on the importance of preserving those documents and their intent for American citizens, and to defend and prevent the dissidence and sometime outright sedition regarding the form and function of the only country in these modern times to which such liberty is entrusted. If the American Republic fails in preserving the original intent of those documents, then this country will fail.

In the intent of the comments directed to this reader, they are taken to heart only under the auspices that in this country, so governed by those documents of liberty and freedom, one can trade expressions of such things in a brotherhood and sisterhood, given and taken from the spirit by which those documents were written.

Even so, the vigilance must not lessen, for the powers that still seek the harm of American freedoms and liberty are still provoked at such things, and continue in efforts to take them away, which they will if none dare to stop them. It is under that frame of thinking that we cannot forget the lives still being counted that are the payment for the preservation of those freedoms, for it is the blood of those lives so bravely given we cannot repay, but we must honor, that makes this exchange even possible. It is for them that thanks are given.
