My response to the above article relating to Barack Obama's Muslim Childhood

Reader comment on item: Barack Obama's Muslim Childhood

I know many people who were born to and grew up in a Muslim family and society. My understanding is that the Muslim parents (probably like other parents from other religions) would automatically claim their loving children's religion as the same as theirs.

In Obama's case, as a child, when his parents enrolled him into school and registered his religion as Islam, it's their claim and as a child he would not understand enough nor had any choice. To him as a child it probably did not mean much.

In regards to him attending religion class, in Indonesia with 90% of the population being Muslim then, every school would have Islam religion class as a compulsory class, so of course he would attend the class.

He may not have considered himself as a Muslim, so I wouldn't use this against him at all. For that matter, Islam and/or Muslim as people's religion should not be used against anyone what so ever, as there are a lot of Muslims who are extremely good people and are role models to others in regards to living in peace and caring for others no matter what religion, color, culture or race.

If Obama was ever a Muslim, he is a beautiful person and deserves to be respected all the way.

Kindest Regards,
