a child being called a Muslim

Reader comment on item: Barack Obama's Muslim Childhood

Submitted by Taj (United States), May 5, 2008 at 20:24

...Mr Pipes attempts to prove that, in part, Barack considered himself a Muslim, yet all he has cited was evidence of what others have considered him...

Mr. Pipes doesn't realize that even within Islam itself, one is not undoubtedly considered a Muslim until one has reached adulthood - a child being called a Muslim, even by a parent - does not necessarily mean that that child is indeed a Muslim, given the fact that being one entails a personal and total acceptance of the religion - something hardly attained by a child...

One would expect some sort of statement from Barack himself ...
