Internalization

Reader comment on item: Barack Obama's Muslim Childhood
in response to reader comment: internalization...

Submitted by K.H. Ahmed (United States), May 22, 2008 at 09:55

I am quite familiar with term - but Mr. Pipes...goes further he tries to imply that Mr. Obama lied about the issues. He does this by misrepresenting the idea that one is born a Muslim and therefore when Obama says I was never a Muslim he accuses him of falsehood - even though Mr. Obama has never met any of the requirements for becoming a Muslim.

I would point out another neat little trick in this article we are referring too - It is said that Mr. Obama's middle name is Hussein, a name which only a Muslim can have - this is in fact flatly false on its face - Hussein is an Arabic name with about 4 or 5 different spellings and is rooted in the Aramaic common to both Arab and Jew - It is these kind of false statements that aggravate me - I frankly don't care who wins the election or who is what religion ...

As to Mr. Obama's exposure to Islam - I would think that is a good thing - it is people like Mr. Obama and Mr. Pipes ...who could bridge some of these gaps because they understand the cultural needs of the people involved.
By the way thanks for the calm response - sometimes there are too many fanatics of all stripes on this site to have a reasonable discussion.
