A naive question...

Reader comment on item: Barack Obama's Muslim Childhood

Submitted by Patrick (France), May 9, 2008 at 03:00

Hi Daniel,

we all know that abandoning the muslim faith is punished by the death penalty according to the Charia.
That means that all imams all over the world are supposed to be quite upset by Obama conversion.

However, we also know that groups like Hamas are supporting him. So what does it mean ?
Does it mean that they believe his conversion is not sincere and he is still "working" for the islam good ?
Like a Trojan horse ?

Thank you for publishing my question,
Patrick

Daniel Pipes replies:

It appears that approval of Obama's policies at this point outweighs dismay at his apostacy.
