The word "Islam" has many meanings. one of which is "Peace". if we were to use the word "sa-la-ma" instead, that would also signify a subject and a pronoun ("he was at peace"). whereas the word "Islam" signifies the act of surrendering and propogating peace. so the word Islam comprises a broader and complete sense of the religion of Islam and its purpose for the believer.

now, Islam establishes not only a peace between its Creator (Allah) and the believer, but also with the world at large.

i quote from the Holy Qur'an:

"It may be that Allah will bring about love between you and those of them with whom you are now at enmity... Allah forbids you not respecting those who have not fought against you on account of your religion, and who have not driven you out from your homes, that you be kind to them and deal equitably with them; surely, Allah loves those who are equitable." - Holy Qur'an, 60:8-9

So the teachings of Islam are very clear. it teaches one to be at peace even with his enemy and to develope love instead of enimity. furthermore, those who are at peace with the Muslims and do not seek to hurt them Allah has commanded us to be nice to them.

In regards to the current situation of Muslims in the world and Terrorism. Islam is at opposite poles with terrorism. The Holy Qur'an specifically mentions that "the taking of one innocent life is like taking all of Mankind... and the saving of one life is like saving all of Mankind" - Holy Qur'an, 5:33.

the allegations thrown on Islam are deviod of truth, but let us not forget that there is a duality in the world and double standards exists everywhere. the same can be said of the Christian Crusades that specifically mentioned the 'killing of infidels (Muslims' and those who 'do not believe in Christ'. this was ordered by the then Pope Urban II.

also the Inquisition that was lead was lead and sought the killing of Jews and Muslims at the hands of Christians, and was sanctioned under the church.

what about Communism? Stalin and his brutal dictorship that killed an estimated 30 Million people during his reign?

so you see, there is an unfortunate duality prevalent in the world and no religion from God advocates the killing of innocents, for they are all creatures of the Almighty and one is accountable for his deeds and actions before God.
