Sword, Am I Getting It Now?

Reader comment on item: Trouble in Londonistan
in response to reader comment: Don't be so hard on yourself

Thank you for sacrificing your time to point out my ignorance. Because of your patience and sacrifice regarding my ignorance, I feel compelled to explain my faux pas. I have a neighbor who was born in Scotland, married in Scotland and fathered 3 daughters in that wonderful land. Although we are friends, he would punch me in the nose if I referred to his native land as British or Britain rather than Scotland. I should have taken the chance and insulted him rather than annoy you. My mistake.

Your reference to Winston Churchill being instrumental in 'giving away' the large chunk of Palestinian territory to Jordan, and please excuse and forgive me for correcting you, particularly since I'm so ignorant and unworthy of your attention, is incorrect. Quoting from the document that you referenced for me, "Although Churchill's name is associated with the paper, it was largely influenced by the High Commissioner for Palestine, Sir Herbert Samuel". As to my remarks regarding Winston Churchill, I stated that I considered him as one of the greatest statesmen who ever lived, and I still do. I did not say he was my hero. No doubt the reason for your misunderstanding my comments is based on your intolerance for annoying halfwits like me and the fact that a Mensa eligible like you, would prefer to spend their time on more important issues.

The reason that I mentioned the books in my library is based on your following statement: "when confronted by irrefutable facts that undermine your opinion you consider that listing the names of a series of authors to be sufficient as a rebuttal". Therefore, I felt compelled to apologize for the terrible impression that I gave you, which is that I refer to books, but don't own or read them. Of course in making this point, I obviously offended you again based on your statement: "constant re-iteration of the fact that you have a large library doesn't counterbalance the absence of any ability to put forward and support an argument. You simply don't get it". Please tell me, do you think I'm getting it now?
