The EU is just a smaller, but equally fractured, version of the UN when it comes to issues like this. In terms of the EU condemnation of the situation the EU is officially saying that Israel should desist from it's present campaign as soon as the Israeli soldiers have been returned and the terrorist shelling has stopped. Banal and meaningless but it does place some emphasis on the other side to make the first move rather than automatically blaming Israel. The UK wanted Syria and Iran to be condemned for their involvement in this declaration but, as with the UN, the EU has been made to compromise by, you guessed it, France & Russia in particular. The French wanted the Israelis to be condemned without any reference or demands placed upon Hamas or Hezbollah whatsoever. The result? The inevitable choice between unified EU 'flim-flam' statements or partisan deadlock. Not as bad as many are suggesting though.

Committees rarely achieve anything as we've seen so regularly in recent times. Maybe France should be next to join the Axis of Evil as they do precious little to help the rest of us. They've never really forgiven the 'Anglos' for liberating their country in WWII.
