You found a genuine literature source which relates to Islam with honest appreciation. I have some great news for you: this is not the only occasion that Islam is mentioned with fairness and honesty. It is a well known historical fact that during the dark Middle Ages, some 1000 years ago, Islam used to be a relatively warm haven to Science, Arts, and Humanity.

In that age, Islam was indeed the herald of enlightenment. But the emphasis is on the word "relatively". On the background of the backwardness and barbarianism of the Christian Europe in that age, it didn't take too much to win the race. You may notice that even your flattering quotation states that "Islam prevailed because it was the best social and political order the times could offer." which essentially says the same thing.

Unfortunately for the World, while since those times the rest of the world underwent huge changes, and made tremendous progress, the Islam is stagnating more or less on the same spot where it used to be a 1000 years ago. And to make things even worse, in our times this relatively dormant religion was literally hijacked by a murderous, militant, terrorist ideology.
