Dear Saladin

My response to Sohail was based on the historical fact than an islamic army did not bring down the Roman empire, because the Roman Empire fell 300 years before the birth of Mohammed AS GENERALLY ACCEPTED BY MOST LEARNED PEOPLE OVER THE LAST 1,700 years. As such events happened before your religion was even conceived, and there were hundreds of religions before Islam, I would'nt argue.

You submitted a response quoting HG Wells. I fail to see how the opinion of one fictional writer is an appropriate response to my point. You quote HG Wells as saying; 'Islam.......prevailed because everywhere it found politically apathetic peoples, robbed, oppressed, bullied, uneducated and unorganized, and it found selfish and unsound governments out of touch with any people at all. It was the broadest, freshest and cleanest political idea that had yet come into actual activity in the world, and it offered better terms than any other to the mass of mankind'.

I know enough about Muslim conquest from islamic sources to know that it forcibly conquered and converted its way out of Arabia and into the Middle East and onwards to India and China. But if we accept HG Wells point for a minute and analyse it, it is not even that positive! What HG Wells is saying is that Islam expanded because there were no better alternatives at the time in that part of the world. So it is not the perfect religion to end all religions - it just came along and filled a gap and and people throught it worth fighting for. He is saying it is OPPORTUNISTIC. Which is why it is also true that islam did not get further than Vienna and Poitiers because Europeans had something they believed in and something they wished to defend.

Think - if the Mongols has built upon their demolition of Baghdad and swept into Arabia then Islam may not have survived as a global religion.

I wish that just ONCE a Muslim would provide me with an intelligent balanced response to these issues, such as global history pre-islam. Give me facts and INTEL you have thought yourself, not regurgitated opinions of others.
