Reader comment on item: Counting Islamists
in response to reader comment: Christians are not angels

Christians aren't all angels? Thanks, but I think we knew that.

I see you agree with Robert Spencer on what comprises a moderate Muslim. He's been attacked and accused of all kinds of things for saying what you said. Lucky for you, you're not so well known, so you won't have to live with a secret address and constant high security for saying the same ("racist, Islamaphobic" ideas) as he.

Have you spent much time in America? I have, and I don't know those "many Americans who try to make fun of Muslims and collectively punish them." Millions of Muslims attend mosques week after week across America, undisturbed and in complete safety. Muslims march in our streets with signs like "Behead those who insult Islam" and "Democracy go to Hell" and "Israel the real holocaust is coming." What happens to them? Nothing. And mosques never explode in the USA, as they so frequently do in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Western history is replete with wars and bloodshed, a lot like Asian history, American Indian history, African history, Japanese history and, perhaps most of all, Islamic history (any idea how the Hindu Kush got its name?). However, when Christians make war, they disobey the founder of the religion they claim to follow; when Muslims make war to spread Islam, they obey the founder of their religion. That's a very basic difference.

Mohammad, 632: "I was ordered to fight all men until they say there is no god but Allah."

Saladin, 1189: "I shall cross this sea to their islands to pursue them until there remains no one on the face of the earth who does not acknowledge Allah."

Ayatollah Khomeini, 1979: "We will export our revolution throughout the world until the calls ‘There is no god but Allah' are echoed all over the world."

Osama bin Laden, 2001: "I was ordered to fight the people until they say there is no god but Allah, and his prophet Mohammad."

Me, 2008: I think I'm beginning to see something of a pattern here.

The West has no traditional dislike of other cultures. What Islamic university is famous for its anthropology program? The little country of Spain translates more books into Spanish in a year than have been translated into Arabic in the last thousand years (with Mein Kampf topping the best seller list in Arab countries year after year). The Arabs outdo us completely by any measure of chauvinism or xenophobia, and their interest in other cultures is about nil. How many mosques in the USA? Thousands. How many churches in Saudia Arabia? Zero. How many Muslims are murdered for converting to another religion? God only knows. How many Christians are murdered for converting to Islam, or any other religion, or no religion at all? Zero.

"Religion is not needed at all as explanation to understand why the world looks as it does"

Be careful who you say that to, you could end up dead. And it won't be a Christian who murders you (nor a Hindu, a Buddhist, a Shinto, a Bahai, or Zoroastrian).
