But being capable of such in depth study of a 'comparitive religion why oh why did you continue being a Muslim?

What a question. I don't know how to explain the concept of faith. It's rare that talk to people who believe in nothing and yet they pity me. It is an enlightening experience I will say. It's not usual for people to convert to Islam. I have taken comparative religious courses more than once. My father has memorized the Bible and I have all three faiths in my family. My life is a comparative religious course. Islam won my heart and mind since I was 11.

I'd read an autobiography of a psychiatrist, on the days he spent learning his profession - he mentions a case of a chronic patient who when giving an account of the behaviors of her co-patients she did so with the accuracy of a diligent medical student, but she lost her talent when confronted with her own behavior.

She was where she was because of startling lack of self-awareness

Interesting…really. I don't know how it applies to me unless you are suggesting that I have a chronic illness called Islam. According to a leading psychologist (Freud) all religion is a neurosis. So I guess from that standpoint, it may be argued. At the same time it was believed that most psychologists were neurotic and often thought of suicide, so I don't think I would take their word for it. Or perhaps I am suffering from a case of mass madness? It would have to be the largest case in history of which has been evolving since the beginning of monotheism.

The awareness of the self is not an exact science, since there is no proof that it exists. The fact that the "self" seems to change throughout lifetimes would suggest that its awareness would only be for a short time, until the self attaches its desires to another object. As a Muslim I am given guidance on how to deal with the "self". I am aware of the challenges and temptations that arise from its quest for corporeal pleasures, however, with the proper care and instruction from Allah, the self can become an ally in the quest called life.

In conclusion: With a further awareness of myself, I will be able to diagnose the entire hospital.
