Reader comment on item: Counting Islamists

Submitted by joe six-pack (United States), Oct 9, 2008 at 08:05

Islam is far more than a religion. It is a way of life. This has much more impact than western 'religions' because Islam contains a legal system, a political system, and an economic system as well as religion. This culture has been established for well over 1000 years. Support for 'radical' Islam is support for many, if not all of the 'authentic' laws of Islam. We in the west think of this as a small percentage of a population. The problem here is what I call the 'Good' Germans.

During World War II, the majority of the populations of Germany and Japan were good people. Yet they fought for evil. They were fighting for their way of life. During the U.S. Civil war, millions of Southerners favored warfare over peace to defend the evil of slavery. Tthey were also defending their way of life. Yet the southerners who did so were not evil people. We see the same problem with Islam today.

Millions of Muslims throughout the Middle East and elsewhere will fight to defend their way of life. The problem is, we have to change that way of life. Take a close look at Islam and you will see why. Just the idea of stoning ANYONE to death has to end. NOW. Just that one issue has caused riots. And that issue is not even one that effects us in the United States directly. The idea of Jihad has to change significantly. NOW. You want to start a war? That one will do it, along with 'kill the occupiers' and a host of others.

Many good Muslims will fight these changes, much like the southerners who fought for slavery. And like those who fought for slavery, their position on these issues is EVIL. Again like slavery, Islam must change, and we must force the change. In the past we could ignore this, however, with WMD it is only a matter of time before this becomes a general war with catastrophic results. It is worth waging conventional warfare today in order to prevent this. We will create many new enemies doing this, as all wars do. In any case, it must be done. The sooner the better.
