Goal of Islam globally

Reader comment on item: Counting Islamists
in response to reader comment: Number of islamists is the scorecard for how close mohammedans are to establishing islam as the dominant ruling organization

Just as people ignored Pat Robertson's early 1990s push for Christians to take over government and schools, they ignore Islam in the same way. We've actually seen some success by Robertson's minions, as many of those entering government during the Bush administration at the entry level were educated at colleges that reinforce fundamentalist Christianity and some Bush policy reflects that as well. Muslims are attempting to form voting blocs, and acknowledged their success in their writings in some areas back in 2000-2001.

Whenever I meet "moderate" Muslims, they always encourage me to read the Koran so I'll "understand them." Of course, this is the same as Robertson encouraging me to read the King James Bible (think of fundamentalists asking you if you believe in John 3:16)--an effort at conversion. Both the Christian Bible and the Koran are the work of cultural engineers who sought to convert people to belief in their doctrine.

But, until we have something both powerful and successul to replace it, we'll see the same old ancient teachings of social control/folklore knocking around. New Thought and Scientology are some of the more recent religions to watch. Scientology must be really worrying some people since the "anonymous" group is so committed to destroying it. New Thought has long been a target of Christian extremists.

I remember when a large New Thought conference was held in Oregon, and Christian extremists lined the roads the buses traveled transporting attendees from the airport carrying signs with hate-filled messages of damnation and screaming hate-filled epithets. Christians may have toned it down since the 13th century, but Muslim extremists have not yet reached a point where they can even tolerate the existence of anyone who does not embrace their cultural engineering.
