Reader comment on item: Destroying Sculptures of Muhammad
in response to reader comment: Do not play with sentiments

"...looks very unusual to non-believers that why Muslims show so overreact on the issue of disrespect of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The main reason is that that these people have forgotten how to respect and honor their own religious figures and how to treat them. You can see cartoons of several Christian religious figures so many times and on so many newspapers and people least care about it...because they don't give any importance to them. Going to Church on Sundays off and on is just a ritual not an Muslims that go aroudn rioting overobligation, thus religion is thrown out of the houses in the west."

It is those Muslims who go around rioting over teddy bears and blowing themselves in the name of their holy prophet that have made the entire religion the brunt of cartoons and ridicule in the first place. The cartoons with Mohammed with a bomb in his turban is only a parody of what Muslims are doing time and again in the name of allah and Mohammed.

As far as the ...-Christs go, of course it is offensive and base and pathetic that well-educated people in the West are often the ones that are perpetuating such boorish behavior.

But centuries of opression from Church and Stae have led the majority of Christians and secularist to the realizaton that the best defense against these institutions is not violence, but the ability to speak out against these buffoons that would abuse the great freedoms that they have been given.

Don't think for even a moment that Christians love Jesus any less because they abstain from violent demonstrations against anothers free speech. Rioting and killing people who would disrespect him and would be dishonoring all that he stands for and all that he died for. To the extent that the same thing may not be said about Mohammed demonstrates the satirical truth of the cartoons in the first place.

And finally, statues honoring Mohammed as a law-giver show no disrespect for the prophet. There is no reason in the world why non-Muslims who would not for a minute consider Mohammed an object for worhsip in the first place should have to kow-tow to religious observances specific to Islams and that are therefore relevant to Muslim believers only.
