Islam not a form of government?

in response to reader comment: Islam and government

I respect your opinion. You understand I disagree, of course. I think the evidence following Islam's movement across the world suggests Islam *is* a form of government--in the political sense. Wherever Islam goes, shari'a is sure to follow. In fact, that's an issue with Muslims who have moved to Western countries--they wish to set up parallel courts based on shari'a instead of existing local law.

I was surprised when I saw Bin Laden compare Islam to capitalism, because I thought he was committed to portraying it as a religion.

I also think some people do practice Islam as a religion, but generally speaking, Islam takes shari'a wherever it goes. I should add that I also think Christianity is only held at bay in the U.S. by separation of church and state. Even so, a very powerful and rich individual like President Bush has tried to spread his fundamental Christian belief and even kill science. I consider him to be a religious freak, and I'm sorry my vote wasn't enough to keep him in Texas. He's made the world worse for Muslims, Christians, Jews, atheists, and everyone else. But the ignorant country people voted for him because he's opposed to gay marriage, and he also has a "base" of oil tycoons and large corporations.

I even know a Muslim man who married a Christian woman, and he does his prayers, etc., while she does hers, and they've managed to work it out for many years. They simply don't talk about religion with each other.
