A "perfect religion"

Reader comment on item: Destroying Sculptures of Muhammad
in response to reader comment: Maha Mohammed: Islam a PERFECT example of what a religion should not be

A perfect religion is one that ceases to exist because the people all become critical thinkers, come to understand how their brains and humans operate, and decide to reject it!

First of all, since "God" or "Allah" is a metaphor and not an actually "being," God doesn't actually say anything. Individual people have insights, and those who are particularly insightful are labeled "prophets" by those who are not.

And some of those so labeled come to see this as a power they can exert to get others to do their bidding. They might be Moses, David, Paul, Mohammed, Joseph Smith, Mao Tse Tong--but one thing they have in common is they have a kind of genius and then use it to create a system at a given point in time that leaves them in the driver's seat--calling the shots for everyone else!

Islam seems ugly and unholy from the outside. The treatment of women is deplorable. The female genital mutilation, forcing women to cover themselves especially in black in sweltering weather while men walk comfortably in tennis shoes, shorts, and short-cropped hair and tee shirts, barring women from having freedom and liberty to be fully human--all because of a lack of understanding of human nature and because an ancient power monger said a supernatural being told him so. Killing their daughters for not wearing headscarves or anyone who draws a Muhammed cartoon--it sounds insane from where I sit. it sounds like a people who have been misled and who are out of control in a destructive world they've created that inflicts pain and sorrow on women.

Plato, I have to agree. Hindus seem so well-adjusted compared to people of other major world religions. I work in a very international city, and I find the Hindus so easy to work with and they don't endlessly try to convert people like the Christians and Muslims do. The Jews are interesting because even the most religious ones don't try to convert others. But the Christians and Muslims are very vocal about the truth of their own myths and folklore.

Very curious.
