Reader comment on item: Destroying Sculptures of Muhammad
in response to reader comment: Real gems from our dear Taj

D.N.M.

Rather than "prove you wrong", which seems so pejorative, I will simpy correct your mistatements.

First, there are several reasons why your assertion that the Quran says Islam is only for hijazi Arabs is incorrect:

1) there is actually no such verse in the Quran that states such. 2) Your assertion fails to account for the occurence of Muslims who were (and are) not al hijazi or even Arabs, such as Bilal, Salman al Farsi, or the contemporary fact that Indonesia is the most populous Muslim country in the world - rendering your assertion somewhat moot

The explanation fo 14:4 is self explanatory - that a prophet would bring teachings in the tongue of his people only makes rational sense with regard to the intent of said teachings being understood. In other words, it would make no sense for Muhammad to reveal the Quran in Chinese, nor would this render God as very "compassionate". Of course, this verse does not even state that Islam is only for hijazi arabs.

In a rebuttal of your above assertion, the Quran states: "Qul: ya ayuhan-Nas...Inna Rasulullahi ilaikum jami'an" ...there are of course several other verses that can be cited with regard to the universal intent of Islam...

Yes, I have been to the Middle East - however, one does not have to have done so to note that "shaikh al jami" is not a widely used term, especially compared to "Imam"...additionally, they are not necessarily even synonymous...

I do find it interesting that you are partial to "mullah", a term definitely not generally used in the middle east, lol...

You remain incorrect in asserting Allah calls menstruation a disease. If you know arabic, then you know "adha" is not translated as "disease"...nor are there many, if any, English translations of the Quran that use the word "disease" in the verse...

I am not sure why you make a point of ridicule regarding the requirement of removing the foreskin in spite of God creating men with it. Why do you cut your hair or nails if its purpose is to grow?

Better yet - Why do men have nipples? Why do tonsils, which fight infection, get infected? Why die from an appendix burst when the organ is practically useless? Why is your brain so large if you only use a small portion of it? Explain your tailbone? Why do babies have larger heads then their mother's pelvis? Why do you have a plantaris muscle? Why don't pandas use their thumbs? Why do ostriches have wings? Why live if we are just going to die?

You get the picture...

Moving on...

You destroyed any credibilty with regard your command of arabic by stating there is "a lam qamariya" (there is no such thing, sorry)...

The other point you fail to realize is that your apparent correction of the Imam's transliteration was mistaken. Any transliteration of the taslimah that retains the "al" is not only incorrect transliteration, but is also an incorrect vocalization. Additionally, you will find the type transliteration that the Imam used, used more widely by Muslims and arab-speakers than the one you cited - simply look around...for example:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/As-Salamu_Alaykum As-Salāmu `Alaykum (السلام عليكم) is an Arabic language greeting used in Muslim cultures. It means "Peace be upon you." It is also transliterated as Assalamu 'Alaikum or As-salaamu Alaikum.

It should be noted that even in your claims of transliteratiing "proper arabic", yours still does not refect a complete (read: "proper") mapping of the arabic.

Because of the complexity of arabic rules, the general rule of transliteration tend to include transcription...hence if you wrote "Bism Allah Al Rahman Al Raheem", you'd tend to either be laughed at, or from a more respectful position, considred a novice with regard to the language.

Most would write: Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem

In any case, good luck with your learning, but again I advise caution when attempting to correct in an area you are not adept...it is both demeaning/insulting and makes you look pretty disingenuous.

Submitting....
