Reader comment on item: Israel's Predicament at 60: World's worst neighbourhood
in response to reader comment: Jerusalem isn't mentioned in the Koran -- not once!

Submitted by Devasahayam (United States), May 19, 2008 at 09:19

As onlytruth says, Jerusalem is not mentioned anywhere in Quran. Even with obfuscation on reference to "uttermost mosque" (or "most distant mosque"), an analysis of the time period mentioned shows that the mosque would be in Mecca (as the brigand... "prophet" Mohamed had less than 100 followers then).

The only other way that one can claim Jerusalem is mentioned in Koran would be to play "letter algorithms"--which would lead to more mentions of Jerusalem in works such as (short sample listing only):

  1. Mahabharata (Vyasa's original only)
  2. Nagananda, play written by Harshavardhana (Thanesar king, 606-648 AD)
  3. Amuktamalyada, Telugu work by Krishnadeva Raya (Vijaynager emperor 1509-1530)
  4. War And Peace, Tolstoys famous work
  5. Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell
