in response to reader comment: ugly command in the bible

I'm glad you think this way, sTs.

But not all Muslims do.

"Killing in self defense" can have a different meaning for different Muslims - 9-11, the London subway bombing, these were commited by Muslims in what they considered "self defense" against the West.

And these incidents, commited by Muslims, involed killing women and children. You write that Muslims are not permitted to do this, but this only how you think; what about all the suicide bombs who take out woman and children?

Don't come back and say, "look at what the U.S. has done". We are talking about religion, not U.S. policy. When is the last time a Christian group bombed an embassy? Or a sidewalk cafe? A discotheque? A hospital? A subway? Office buildings? A shopping stand?

You write, "the Isrealites were ordered to enter every town and villiage and kill the men and the married women and leave for yourselves young girls who are not married for your pleasure."

You know this is not true - the Bible did not state "enter every town and villiage" - the men and women to be killed were A GROUP who were having incest and sacrificing (killing) their own children for their "gods" - and the young females who had not yet participated in this horrible "cult" were ordered to be spared, and taken care of.

The Bible gives the name of this group of people. It does not just name them as "unbelievers".

And that is my point. I don't believe ALL Muslims think that ALL unbelievers should be killed - yet this is what the Qur'an says. The exception is if the "unbeliever" pays a special tax or converts to Islam.

So if you won't "pay the tax" or convert to Islam? DEATH.

As per your request, "ugly verse in the Qur'an"-

As for those disbelieving infidels, I will punish them with a terrible agony in this world and the next - Qur'an 3:56

They desire that you should disbelieve as they have disbelieved, so that you might be (all) alike; therefore take not from them friends until they fly (their home) in Allah's way; but if they turn back, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them, and take not from them a friend or a helper - Qur'an 4.89

Instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers; smite above their necks and smite all their finger tips off them - Qur'an 8:12

Kill the dis-believers wherever we find them - Qur'an 2:191

Fight and slay the pagans, seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem - for them (the un-believers) garments of fire shall be cut and there shall be poured over their heads boiling water whereby whatever is in their bowels and skin shall be dissolved and they shall be punished with hooked iron rods - Qur'an 22:19-22

Your Lord inspired the angels with the message: 'I will terrorize the unbelievers. Therefore smite them on their necks and every joint and incapacitate them. Strike off their heads and cut off each of their fingers and toes.' - Qur'an 8:12

Allah wished to confirm the truth by his words: 'Wipe the infidels (non-Muslims) out to the last.' - Qur'an 8:7

The unbelievers (non-Muslims) are your inveterate foe. - Qur'an 4:101

Strike off the heads of the dis-believers; and after making a wide slaughter among them, carefully tie up the captives. - Qur'an 47:4

Any person, i.e. Muslims, who has changed his religion, kill him. - Qur'an 9:11-12 and the canonized Hadith (Al-Bukhari, Vol. 9, p.45)

Bukhari volume 9, #64 - "narrated Anas: Some people from the tribe of Ukl came to the Prophet and embraced Islam. The climate of Medina did not suit them, so the Prophet ordered them to go to the camels of charity to drink their milk and urin (as a medicine). They did so, and after they had recovered from their ailment they turned renegades (reverted from Islam, irtada) and killed the shepherd of the camels and took the camels away. The Prophet sent (some people) in their pusuit and so they were caught and brought, and the Prophet ordered that their hands and legs should be cut off and that their eyes should be branded with heated pieces of iron, and that their cut hands and legs should not be cauterized, till they die."

You have written how much alike you think Mohammed and Moses were - did Moses ever order "that their hands and legs be cut off and that their eyes should be branded with heated pieces of iron"?
