Reader comment on item: Israel's Predicament at 60: World's worst neighbourhood

Submitted by Peter Herz (United States), May 8, 2008 at 11:43

Actually, a number of states face extinction. We often forget that back in the 1800's, Canada may well have failed to happen because of our [American] nationalism. In the 1950's and '60's, Sukarno of Indonesia vowed to "crush Malaysia". Taiwan is also on the edge of a precipice.

However, it is sobering that most of the Islamic world seems to take it as an affront that any once-dhimmi people might emerge from such a status. The Islamic world always seems receptive to people who say, "Today Falastin, tomorrow Andaluz". it almost makes me want to cry, "give us back the city of Constantine and the homes of the African Fathers!" in self-defense.
