Reader comment on item: A Democratic Islam?
in response to reader comment: Another Interesting Book

Thanks, Luca. I just ordered it.

I am concerned that so many people actually believe the ancient writings written by people to assure their own position of power, with stories of magic and exclusivity, and are forcing people to live by dictatorial rules they attribute to a supernatural being today.

We especially need to emancipate women and allow them to be the full human beings they are. I don't see this happening in any Islamic country, although at one time Iran seemed to be moving in a positive direction with respect to women's freedom. India certainly went backwards when Muslims began to control political territory.

One thing I've experienced with even moderate Muslims and Christians is they just keep pushing the Koran and Bible without questioning--they are completely indoctrinated to the point of wondering why others don't believe it, too.
