Surah of the day: Understanding the Surahs -- Parallels to Biblical Psalms?

Reader comment on item: A Democratic Islam?

Submitted by GWK (United States), Apr 18, 2008 at 12:02

Here's today's Surah for the day:

"Behold! We have given you a clear victory that you may be absolved of the sins of your past and those yet to follow and that the Lord may perfect His favor to you and guide you and assist you with His invincible helping hand. It is but He who fills the hearts of the believers with peace and reassurance and adds strength to their conviction. Allah's are the legions of the heavens and the earth. He alone is the Knowing, Wise."

-Qur'an, Al-Fath, Surah 48:1-4

How different is this verse from any of the Psalms of David? Not very. So the Quran serves as potential inspiration and spiritual salve to 1/4th of the world's population as Psalms and other biblical scriptures do to another 1/4th of the world's population. Cannot these parallel universes ever come to peace? Or will Islam find its radicals always at odds with those who don't believe exactly as they do?
