Pakistanis largest supporters of Taliban

Reader comment on item: A Democratic Islam?
in response to reader comment: Democracy is no standard to judge anything.

Waqar Akbar reveals attitudes of approximately one-half of Pakistanis who firmly support the Taliban and their quest to impose Afghan-style Taliban Islam on the world. We saw the executions in the sports stadium, the terrorist training camps, the absence of medical care for any female. This is what Akbar wants world-wide.

At the same time, I perceive a total lack of awareness or appreciation of the very gradual process that over hundreds of years brought liberal democracy to Europe. Mr. Akbar, it was the disgust and revulsion of the peoples of Europe against your kind of religious supremacism. The rivers of blood shed in Europe finally led to our present system by trial and error. It looks like triumphant supremacists like Akbar will have to experience a few thousand more suicide bombs before the point comes home to him that religious intolerance can never create a stable society where his children can grow up with hope. How many Sunnis or Shi'ites or Deobandis or Barelvis children have to die before supremacists like him change their minds?
