Newsweek and the Barbary Pirates - Islam and Democracy revisted

Reader comment on item: A Democratic Islam?
in response to reader comment: Lybian piracy

Submitted by David Campbell (United States), Apr 23, 2008 at 16:33

I found this week's Newsweek (April 28, 2008) to be highly entertaining inasmuch as it reiterates, albeit belatedly the point I made in my April 17th response to Islam and Democracy.

While some respondents didn't see the same correlation I did, apparently writers at Newsweek have; and in doing so point out that many of the suicide/homicide bombers in Iraq have come from the Libyan city of Darnah.

On page 1, it even displays the year I referred to in my response - 1805. Putting my response to the question of democracy and Islam in clearer terms, however, let me just say that democracy and Islam are and always will be inherently incompatible, because Muslims insist that there can be no separation of church and state. Instead they'd rather put their trust in the ravings of a homicadal epileptic, the book he inspired/dictated, and the equally ludicrous rantings of hadiths, etc, that have transpired since then.

Trying to find a "middle ground" with believers in Islam can only be likened to trying to negotiate peace with the murderers who brought down the World Trade Centers with airliners turned into bombs. In short, there will have to be a major rethinking/rewriting of the Qur'an, with major revisions, in order for 1.5 billion Muslims to ever leave peacefully with the remaining 5 billion non-Muslims. I just don't see that happening in my life time, or that of my near term descendants.
