The Only Path to Democracy

Reader comment on item: A Democratic Islam?

Submitted by John J Nosser (United States), Apr 21, 2008 at 01:42

Daniel,

I think the only path to Democracy for Muslims, which will also curtail their Jihad for spreading Islam all over the world, is for them to reject Islam and convert to Christianity or some other religion not based on hate and war. Islam cannot be re-interpreted in order to develop Democracy, there are too many verses which can only be interpreted as hateful or a call to war.

Neither can Democracy be developed by retaining only the parts of the Koran that are suitable for Democracy, there would not be very many verses left in the Koran. Democracy may be developed by both re-interpreting the Koran as a whole and retaining only the parts of the Koran that facilitate the development of Democracy. However, if you have to change Islam this much you may as well reject the entire Koran up front.

It would also be easier to convert Muslims to Christianity, for example, rather than to try to convince them to re-interpret the Koran or to reject those parts of the Koran that are anti-Democratic. When Love and Peace are compared to Hate and War, most people would choose Love and Peace!
