It seems that Erdogan has gone far too far in his ambitions in becoming the l.eader of the Muslim world!

Reader comment on item: Turkey: An Ally No More

There is no harm in maintaining good relations with the neighbours in the East. The harm lies in throwing away the relations with the West. I am commenting on this Pipes article, today on Nov.22, having heard Erdogan´s declarations about Soudan and having read in a Turkish newspaper (a Bandirma paper) that "Israel wants to exterminate Muslims" whereas the past of the Jewish State, from not so long ago, shows exactly the contrary. I fear that the Turkish Premier has joined the ranks of those Muslims who systematically deny the Holocaust, distort contemporaneous history with convenient theories of conspiration and untruths. I have hoped for a long time that the Army and Modern Turkey would have given Erdogan a limit such as "until here but not any further" and I still do! Turkey has not gotten rid of the weaknesses of the Ottoman Empire with a lot of trouble in order to retrograde. I know that there are a lot of Turkish people that do not agree with Erdogan as long he keeps on looking and talking only Eastwards, exercising his rhetoric.

Today, the Israeli FM has discarded Turkey as a mediator with Syria. In case Erdogan prefers talking nicely to the Soudanese and aligns himself with Ahmedinnejaad neither Europe or the US will maintain its good-will towards Turkey, and I am not speaking about membership in the EU which I oppose but of greater political losses. The Turkish State needs friends in both directions as it did before!!
