I'm not the least surprised : more and more people agree with Daniel Pipes

Reader comment on item: Turkey: An Ally No More

Submitted by Anne-Marie Delcambre (France), Oct 31, 2009 at 05:38

Daniel Pipes is walking on thin ice but those who knew him liked his honesty.

What he wrote ( "Turkey, Still a Western Ally ? ", Jerusalem Post, December 5, 2007) was true and that's what we are afraid of. It's so true !

Daniel Pipes wrote : " for someone, LIKE MYSELF, who appreciates the secularist's ' long run and suspects the AKP of being an Islamist organization that seek to impose Islamic law (The Shari'a) and perhaps overthrow the secular Atatürkist order to create an Islamic Republic of Turkey (...)

"New realities require a painful reassessement and giving up the warm sentiments built up over a nearly 60-year alliance "

Whose side is Daniel Pipes on ?

He wrote : "Most importantly, an ideologically assertive Turkey must be denied membership in the European Union"

I'm not sure French government agrees with Daniel Pipes, though.
It's too bad !
