Europes rejection

Reader comment on item: Turkey: An Ally No More

Submitted by paul Gertz (United States), Oct 27, 2009 at 22:29

The West was so busy demanding a mea culpa over the Armenian genocide issue besides it's suspicion of Turkey's Islamanism that as Turkey's efforts to join the European Union fondered it behaved like any rejected suitor and turned to other more amiable partners. The price: Turning away from Israel as being part of the West and also possibly refusing to allow Turkey to be an interlocker re Hamas. In fact refused to let a Turkish official visit Gaza. I don't know the whole story but on the surface it is seems to have been very insensitive of Turkish sensibilty, Also note that the Turks and Armenians have agreed to a working relationship; reality or expediency trumps history. Stewart Aim, staff writer for The Jewish Week has a very fine analysis of what could be possibly going on in the Turkish mind set. It is in the October 16th issue: Gaza War Still Strains Israel Ties With Turkey
