Turkey Came from the East and is Returning to the East

Reader comment on item: Turkey: An Ally No More

Turkish people suffer from identity problem as a result of Ataturk secular distortions. They came from Asia, embraced Islam and penetrated under the banner of Islam into Europe. The image of Turkish people has always been negative in European collective memory. When Ataturk in a defeatist temper under Curzon's impact accepted secularism, Muslim Turks rebelled violently and were ever since repressed. The sacred cow of Kemalism established a newspeak republic in which Ataturk was the new God. It was blindness that made the Turks accept the illusion of EU full membership. The introduction of Swiss civil code only distorted Turkey : so many divorces, honor killing and legalized prostitutionalizing of the very conscience of Turkish people.

Now Turkey is awakening from a false dream which is only a dream to ignorant people. The nightmare of full membership in the EU. De Gaulle was the first to question the European identity of Turkey... He was rational man who pays due regard to history and geography..Not stupid as the USA to believe that all people live in the same mental space and have similar world-view...similar heritage..I was in Adana years ago and went to a mosque. I couldn't find me a place to say my prayers. It was too crowded and people lined in rows across the streets. How could these people turn against themselves. They can be decieved for a while but not at all for ever!

It is a happy occasion indeed that Arabs, Turks and Iranians understand the trick of divide and rule which the West had been using since the Lawrence motivated Arab revolution which only ended up in a new slavery. ...
