Civilized divorce is probably the best option

Reader comment on item: Turkey: An Ally No More

Submitted by BA (United States), Oct 27, 2009 at 18:57

Well, I don't believe that the West lost a strategic ally. Turkey, under AKP is not a friend but should not be treated as a foe yet. Turkey for some reason lost its compass and this is not a surprise to those who follow the Moslems way of thinking. I knew that Turkey was lost when it prevented its supposedly best ally"USA" from entering Iraq from the north during the last Gulf war and since then, I do believe we're at lose on how to proceed with a civilized divorce with Turkey. It seems our relationship is going to be a burden on both sides and therefore, the best we can do is to end it. Let Turkey returns to the East and that's where it probably belongs. The US congress, both parties, has always been suspicious of Turkey and in many occasions brought up the Armenian greenside issue. However, the US presidents whether Republicans or Democrats were against any thing to upset Turkey. Israel for its own reason was also lobbying for Turkey, but now Turkey has shown its true color, thanks to AKP and its Islamists' leaders. BA
