If you read page 194 in Crone's "Meccan Trade" she wrote:

(Also read pages 187-195)

This alone makes me wonder, So how do you explain that Allah and Hubal shared such links? And are Allah and Hubal one and the same deity? It very well could be true, but like anything else in the history of early Islam one can never be sure.
