I recall arguments from the WSJ's Opinion Journal...

Reader comment on item: Is Allah God? - Continued

which suggested that Allah=God; and that all three monotheistic faiths worship the same deity. I don't recall the train of reasoning behind the assertion...but, I think it was one of the times in which I had to disagree. I don't think the equation stands (Allah=God), or to have the equation make sense, the attributes of G-d would have to undergo radical transformations. Also, I think what we term "radical" Islam is still Islam...it's not another religion...so, to state that one "respects" Islam -- for better or worse -- this would have to include the way in which the radicals conceive of Allah and Islam. (Thus, indirectly suggesting that suicide "martyrdom" is "understandable" or worthy of "respect." I believe that's also the Anglican position.) Perhaps this is also why the pope and others refuse to outright condemn suicide terrorists.
