In self-contradiction

Reader comment on item: Is Allah God? - Continued

Submitted by Ron Thompson (United States), Sep 30, 2006 at 14:15

It's difficult to understand how Daniel Pipes could say in one of these subtopics that Allah is the same God as that of the Christians and Jews (agreeing with a statement by Benedict XVI), and then in the comments on Moshe Aron's thinking, agree with him (as I do) ababout the nature of Islamout the nature of Islam.

How can he say, "It is a mistake to differentiate between radical and peaceful Islam" (which I think is true) and then believe the same God is operative in the three main monotheisms.

Put another way, if it is the same God for all three religions, then what's the point of having this God, if hundreds of millions of human beings can interpret him so fundamentally and so irreconcilably differently? Ron Thompson

Daniel Pipes replies:

1 - Whether Allah is God or not has little to do with the historical record.

2. I don't agree with Sharon on the nature of Islam, as I indicate in my comments in that entry.
