The blind men and the elephant

Reader comment on item: Is Allah God? - Continued

Submitted by PJ (United States), Sep 27, 2006 at 16:27

The comments on "Is Allah God?" mostly appalled me--so I hope this one doesn't appall anybody. I could only think of a little poem from somewhere, about the blind men who "went to see the elephant"; each examined a different part of the beast, and they all disagreed:
So, oft in theologic wars
The disputants, I ween,
Rail on in utter ignorance
Of what each other mean;
And prate about an Elephant
Not one of them has seen!

God help us all!
