Reader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men
in response to reader comment: Incorrect information of the Quran

This is why there should not be bashing of Islam or Muslim men and women here. The religion does not instruct abusive behavior towards women (as the quotes above illustrate), and the men are not "tyrants", nor are the women "victims" or Codependents in an "abusive" relationship. Islam, like Christianity, is sometimes misinterpreted by outsiders of the religion, or it's followers, which leads to behavior that deviates from the original writings. This is why it is important not to generalize...and not bash MENA men or women here. I learned about Islam while taking "Comparative Religions" in college, and later firsthand, by attending a local Mosque after briefly considering a marriage proposal from a MENA man. I ultimately decided against marrying him, but I enjoyed doing something different, cooking & eating different foods, learning a little bit of a different language (Wolof), etc.
