So, how far back does one need to go before Byzantium is changed to Istanbul and the Sofia Hagia reverts to its original purpose?

We read elsewhere the Persians were still ensconced in the Sasanid/Ghassanid battles for control of the Levant before Islam was employed/deployed as the replacement religion in order to keep from being overrun by the religion of Constantine: how does this comport to the legend of the takeover of the al-Ruum?
