Reader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men
in response to reader comment: I'm aware of that

Dear Dr Pipes,

Jessica from Canada explained why she repeatedly mentions that her Moroccan Muslim boyfriend is paying for all her living and entertainment expenses. She said that she was doing it to emphasize that when a western woman gets involved with a ME man, she should still expect him to be a responsible husband and bear his and his family's cost of living.

I agree with Jessica's explanation and would try not to forget it. I, however, say that with almost all parents paying as much attention to their daughter's education as to their sons and with the governments and companies actively executing affirmative action programs for women, earning money for the households should not be only the man's responsibility. My-money-is-my-money-and-your-money-is-our-money paradigm supported by Muslim and many other cultures should end. If we continue this paradigm, half the earned income of the humanity will not be put to fruitful use. Thus, for a change, I bat for a MENA man.

I am confident that Jessica and her would be husband will find a modern solution.
