Incorrect information of the Quran

Reader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men

Submitted by A true believer (United States), Jan 25, 2020 at 09:06

This is incorrect about the verse in the Quran. This is the post and below it will be the whole verse of the Quran and the following verse.

"Aug. 23, 2007 update: The Kamil Internaltional Ministries Organization of Raleigh, North Carolina, has published a tract, "Why Women Should Not Marry Muslims?" It begins by contrasting verses from the Koran and New Testament:

"Husband, beat your wives and deny them sex." (Koran 4:34)

"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the Church and gave Himself for her." (Ephesians 5:25)"

The 4:34 Quran verse, in English:

"Men are the full maintainers of women, because Allah has made one of them excel the other, and because men spend out of their wealth on them. So virtuous women are those who are obedient (to Allah) and guard (their own chastity as well as the rights and secrets of their husbands even) in (their) absence, as Allah has guarded (the women's rights). As for those women (on whose part) you apprehend disobedience and bad behavior, you may admonish them (first lovingly) and (then) refuse to share their beds with them and (as a last resort) punish them (mildly). If they, then, obey you, you shall seek no other way against them. Indeed, Allah alone is High and (the) Great."

My comment: "mildly" is added in parentheses because the Arabic word expresses that and can be translated differently based on the context. The Islamic scholars have expressed that the mild punishment is not to inflict pain, is symbolic and must not last for a long time. I will also include Quran 4:35 to expand on this. End comment.
4:35
"If you apprehend a breach between the two (-a man and his wife) then appoint one arbiter his people and one arbiter from her people; if the two have a mind to effect reconciliation Allah will bring it about between them. Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware."
