Reader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men
in response to reader comment: Abuse all over the World

Religion can definitely act as a catalyst. I too know Muslim wives that are very happy and moreover treated like princesses. And I know Christian women that are treated like crap. I also know that many of the lowlives spoken of on here are not even practicing Muslims. The pious ones are usually quite humble, and will barely look a woman in the eye.

But you really need to understand the dynamics of Islam. It's a male centred faith. Yes, Muslim women will say that they are treated like precious pearls, that they have this right and that right. But you have to understand it's conditional.

This is one of the main differences between Islam and Christianity. Christianity teaches unconditional love, whereas Islam might indeed promise women good treatment - on the condition that they are obedient. This means submitting to whatever your husband might desire. Most men misinterpret this to mean anything they want, including practices that might be forbidden in Islam.

Women are objectified. They are either wives and mothers, war booty or houria. The promised houria of paradise are essentially Barbie doll-like, always ready and willing to please. With no visible human "flaws" and virginity that resets. When you present something as an object, it's easy to abuse and mistreat. There is only black and white, no grey.

Women are here to please men. Men are required to pleasure their wives, but they are not banished from the marital bed if they fail to send said wives to 7th heaven.

This. Is where the sense of entitlement comes from
