Response to Sandy

Dear Dr Pipes, I posed some questions for your atheist reader Sandy who is pursuing a long distance relationship with a Muslim gentleman. Though I posed my questions directly to Sandy, in reality, they were posed to all non-Muslim men and women who are considering marriage to Muslim partners. Sandy owed no replies to me because all adults, after all, are free to marry any one they choose. I respect Sandy's right to have free thoughts and make decisions for herself.

The reason I posed those questions is that I find Islamic doctrines about day to day living (politics/marriage/society) extremely selfish and hypocritical. In Islam the sense of reciprocity and symmetry is completely missing both in practice and principle. That is why, every one who is planning to enter a matrimonial relationship with a Muslim should ponder about the questions that I posed. Every individual, though, is free to act and no one owes an explanation to any one but himself/herself (Ironically, I wish that Islam gave the same freedom to everyone!!).
