Reasonable --not Islamic-- is what we need

Dear Dr Pipes, Your reader Jordanna -- who, apparently, is married to a very rich Muslim Egyptian husband -- told us that it was Islamic that wife keeps her money separate. She told us that she made $37,000 per year and the husband makes a lot more. In these circumstances it might be reasonable if Jordanna keeps her money separate and her husband bears all expenses. But there is nothing Islamic about it. Nor should there be. If the husband some how stops making his huge salary and starts making $17,000, then if we were to follow Islam and not follow reason, then Jordanna will still be keeping her 37K and the poor guy will still be bearing all expenses. That will be disastrous. This brings us to the crux of the matter that our Muslim brothers and sisters forget: reason is paramount and Islamic is not!
