Hi Lisa: Thanks for writing.

1) This is REALLY important: you have more than one flag here. For one thing, if you really believed what he was saying, you would not be on here. Think about this: You are to some degree putting the fate of a marriage, which is supposed to be a contract for life, in the hands of 3rd party internet strangers.

2) It's possible his mother doesn't approve of this. But it's possible she doesn't know about you two at all and he's just saying that because he doesn't her to know he's scamming you.

3) Him not having any friends----that's a big red flag whether it's true or false. If it's true, it could signify certain psychological/social problems. If false, it's a clear sign of scam because liars and scammers involve as few people as possible----unless they are in on it and approve.

4) Laughing at controlling behavior---I suspect, Lisa, that this is more of a problem than you are selling us on. This would probably only get worse if you were married and under the same roof. I cannot imagine it would get better. He would have his way here and you know it. As far as him not liking seeing you in skirt, well, I ca appreciate modesty arguments, but in the good old days of the West this kind of thing would have him uncharitably labeled as a closet homosexual. This is a clearly a cultural flashpoint that tends to spiral out of control in a hurry.

Unfortunately, Lisa, these are the problems and uncertainties that go with the territory of international, on-line dating and there is no way around them. It's good you are asking these things now.

I really don't think this is a relationship you want to pursue, because the uncertainties cannot be mitigated. You would have to literally move to Egypt and get to know him better by spending time with him in person more regularly, but even then I suspect you wouldn't like the end result.
